Obituary

Somersworth – Marguerite A. (Fournier) Carignan, 82 of Somersworth passed away peacefully at The Wentworth Home on August 8th, 2017.

Peg was very fortunate in that she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to so many. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Martin Church of St Ignatius of Loyola Parish and her faith was very important to her.

Peg was born and raised in Somersworth, NH and stayed the majority of her life in the home her father built when she was a child. She and her husband later purchased the home from her parents so she could raise her own family in that same house. Peg went to college at St. Joseph's Nursing School in Nashua where she made some life-long friends. Her nursing career started and ended at Frisbie Memorial Hospital where she spent 30+ years in the "Maternity Ward" in which she welcomed a large contingent of the current local community into the world. She loved maternity and enjoyed being in such a happy place with "all those babies". She continued to volunteer there after she retired. It was early in 1958 when she would meet her Husband "Jerry" who danced into her life, they would later marry and have 4 children.

Peg enjoyed knitting, quilting, sewing over the years and often spent time sewing and quilting with her aunts. She made sure her family all had plenty of quilts for remembering her by. Later in life she and Jerry would enjoy travelling by taking bus trips to meet new people and enjoy visiting some new places. A highlight later in Peg's life was her monthly luncheons with friends from grade school and high school. It was one of her many blessings. Her greatest joy was each arrival and time spent with her grandchildren. Before she was slowly taken from this world by the disease of Alzheimer's, Peg lived almost 4 years at the Wentworth Home where she made new friends, especially with the staff who graciously assisted her into her final stages of life with respect and dignity. We so much appreciated those very special people (thank-you).

Peg is survived by her children, Robert Carignan and his wife Jeanne of Dover, NH, Paul Carignan and his wife Martha of Concord, NH, and Lisa Carignan of North Berwick, ME and son-in-law Yves Desloges of Hopkinton, MA. She is also survived by her 6 wonderful grandchildren Adam Carignan of Manchester, NH, Alec Carignan of Dover, NH, Benjamin Carignan of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam,  Julianne Carignan of East Greenwich, RI, Renee Desloges of Newton, MA. and Taylor Desloges of Hopkinton, MA. She is survived by her one and only sister, Pauline Mossey and her husband George of Nashua, NH. She has three nephews - Marc Deschenes, Danny Deschenes and Peter Deschenes.

Peg was predeceased by her loving husband Jerry, her beautiful daughter Lynda Desloges and her parents Robert and Rose (Noel) Fournier.
