Kittery Point- Marilyn J Hoyt, 87, of Foyes Lane, passed away on January 14, 2020 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
A true native of Kittery, she was born in the Rice Tavern on October 16, 1932, to Bernard P and Edna M (O'Brien) Ruger. She attended local schools, graduating from R. W. Traip Academy with the class of 1950.
She married her high school sweetheart, Beryl Hoyt, in 1951, in Biloxi MS, while he was serving in the United States Air Force. Upon his return from overseas, they started their family in Kittery, prior to settling in their home in Kittery Point in 1962.
Marilyn served in the hospitality industry for years, most memorably at JJ Newberry's candy counter, Valle's Steak House and Cap'n Simeon's Galley. She made lifelong friends of both her co-workers and customers, who often shared wonderful memories of their time together.
A talented dancer, Marilyn performed with the Emma Smith Dance Studio, traveling and performing for 17 years on stage. Marilyn passed along her love of dance to her family, and greatly enjoyed dancing with her husband.
She enjoyed keeping her gardens and photographing the birds that would visit her well-stocked bird feeders. Marilyn also was an avid reader and enjoyed a lively game of bingo.
Next to her love of family, she truly enjoyed cooking for loved ones (i . e . the entire community). Her famous baked beans and delicious desserts were enjoyed by all who visited the Kittery Point Fire Department Ham and Bean Suppers.
She is survived by Beryl, her husband of 68 years, their children; son Gary Hoyt and his wife Anita, daughter Nancy Eslinger and her husband Ross, daughter Sharon Cray, and son Brian Hoyt and his wife Cellissa ; grandchildren: Ryan and Erica Eslinger, James Eslinger and Crystal Stevens, Meghan (Eslinger) and Scott Batson, Stacy (Hoyt) and Jared Bridges, Kevin and Ashley Hoyt, Nichole Cray, Danielle Cray and Elayna Messenger; great-grandchildren: Caroline Bruno-Eslinger and Madisyn Roberts, Logan and Liam Eslinger, Carly Bridges, Cole and Brooks Hoyt; aunt Florence DiSilVestro , brother Donald Ruger and his wife Anita, sister Gloria Yates, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marilyn was predeceased by her brother, William Ruger, and son, Steven Paul.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with her family on Monday, January 20, 2020, from 6-8pm, and attend services on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at 11am, at the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. A reception will be held following the service at The View at Pepperrell Cove in Kittery Point. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com.
