Marilyn Ethel Stevens Smith, 90, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026.

Marilyn was first and foremost devoted to her beloved husband, Bob, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and adventure until his passing. They built their lives side by side, even working together throughout much of their careers. Together they worked tirelessly to build a life and provide for their family, never shying away from hard work and always facing life's challenges as a team. Their marriage was a true partnership, rooted in love, joy, and unwavering commitment.

Family was at the center of everything Marilyn did. She deeply loved both the family she was born into and the one she and her husband created together. As the youngest of six children, she treasured being "the baby" of the family, and throughout her life she shared a particularly special bond with her devoted sister, Doris. Even as dementia gradually stole many of her memories, mentioning Doris would always bring a smile to her face. During those years of transition, her son Kevin became a source of true comfort. He would often climb into bed beside her, holding and cuddling his mother, bringing her a sense of peace and reminding her with his embrace that love endures even when words begin to fade.

Marilyn’s life was marked by both profound joy and unimaginable sorrow. She endured the heartbreaking loss of two cherished sons, taken far too young, yet she continued to meet life with strength, grace, and an enduring love for those around her.

Bob and Marilyn found great happiness in traveling together. In their motor home they explored nearly every state in the country, creating countless memories along the way. They also loved square dancing, making friends wherever they went, and embracing every opportunity to socialize and enjoy life together.

Living in Florida brought them great joy and they eagerly looked forward to spending summers in New England, where family gathered at their campground. Those summers became treasured traditions filled with laughter, swimming, togetherness, and memories that will continue to live on through the generations Bob and Marilyn loved so dearly.

Marilyn will be remembered for her steadfast love for Bob and her unwavering devotion to her family, creating a legacy rich in memories, traditions, and enduring love.

Marilyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Smith; her sons, William Emery and Robert Emery; and her siblings Olive Emery, Norman Stevens, Margaret Bean, and William Stevens.

She is survived by her son Kevin Emery and his husband Jeffrey Beland; her sister, Doris Cutten; her stepdaughter Del Skillins; her daughter-in-law Christina Emery; her stepson Kermit Smith; and her grandchildren Jaimi and Shaun Layton, Michael and Laurel Skillins, Janis Emery and Clayton Brumfield, and Stephen Skillins; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Marilyn’s family finds comfort knowing she is reunited with Bob, Billy, and Bobby, who she loved and missed so dearly.
