Obituary

Kittery, Maine- Marjorie Louise (DeLellis) Daggett, 91, passed into eternal life on April 22, 2023, at her home in Kittery. Born on January 8, 1932, she was raised in Cranston, RI and attended Assumption School and Saint Xavier High School in Providence, and graduated from Salve Regina College in Newport, RI in 1953. She taught second grade at Gladstone Elementary in Cranston, RI, and married Linwood A. Daggett of Sherman Mills, Maine, in August 1957, and raised four children. A steadfast Navy wife, she treasured the fact that despite many separations while her husband was at sea or on a distant assignment, the family was always together on Christmas. Following Linwood's retirement from the Navy, the family moved from Cranston to Kittery in 1973. Marjorie served in human resources at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years, lightening the mood at meetings with unions with her Daffy Duck coffee mug, who would be consulted for approval by union and government reps. She served Saint Raphael's Church, chairing the Church and Family Life Commission, serving on the parish council, organizing funeral luncheons and helping with the annual bazaar. She was adept at many crafts including making clothes, knitting, ceramics and cake decorating; her hooked rugs won awards, including First Premium awards at the Rochester Fair. She and Linwood enjoyed travelling to ships' crews' reunions and visiting family, and weekend cookouts at home. She loved birds and flowers, and was especially devoted to Saint Ann, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank M. and Winifred (Cassidy) DeLellis of Cranston, RI; brothers Father Francis V, DeLellis of Matunuck, RI, and Benjamin F. DeLellis of Cranston; her loving husband of 60 years husband Linwood; daughter Rose Anne and another baby; and grandson John F. Daggett of South Paris, Maine. She is survived by two sons: Thomas C. Daggett, and Deacon Francis L. Daggett and his wife Barbara; daughters Anne Marie Gerrish and her husband Bruce, and Camilla A. Daggett; granddaughter-in-law Heather (Bonneau) Daggett; granddaughters Catherine A. (Daggett) Simonitis and her husband Daniel, and LeeAnne Gerrish.
