Marvin O.
Dahlen
Jul 15, 1933 — Dec 12, 2016
Kittery Point - Marvin O. Dahlen of Kittery Point, Maine passed away at the age of 83 on December 12, 2016 due to post-surgery complications. Marvin was born in Stockholm, Maine on July 15, 1933 - a proud Swede- and graduated from high school at Patten Academy. Marvin served in the Air Force and was stationed in Georgia, Montana, and Newfoundland before returning home to Maine. Marvin worked his whole career at the Schiller Station in Newington, NH where he retired from in 1992.
Marvin is survived by his lovely wife and light of his life of 46 years, Ofelia. He is also survived by his children David Dahlen, Delora Henderson, Kristina Dahlen, Darryl Dahlen and his step-children Mario Hayes, Pete Hayes, and Richard Hayes. Marvin was a loving husband, father, brother, step-father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Marvin was a man who could do anything he put his mind to. He enjoyed working with his hands, and built his first house himself. He was a skilled wood worker and enjoyed building bird houses and Adirondack chairs. He earned his private pilot license and was in a flying club at the Littlebrook Airport in Eliot, ME.
Marvin enjoyed working outside, photographing the wildlife he saw in his beautiful yard in Kittery Point, and making the drive to his second home in Frostproof, Florida with Ofelia crocheting by his side. Marvin spent time researching his Swedish heritage and actively contributing to the Stockholm Historical Society Museum archives. While interested in history, Marvin also avidly followed current world events and kept up with technology, living a full and rich life.
This past summer, Marvin fulfilled a dream of buying a Model A car, which was the car he had learned to drive on. Along with his son, Darryl, he was active as of late in the local classic car show scene. Marvin was an active member of Church at Spruce Creek in Kittery and the First Baptist Church of Frostproof, Florida where he gave of his time visiting shut-ins, working in the food pantry, and attending weekly bible classes. Marvin chose to feel blessed and took both hardships and joys in stride with his faith in God sustaining him.
A service will be held to celebrate Marvin's life on Saturday, January 7th at 2pm at the Church at Spruce Creek in Kittery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Stockholm Historical Society Museum, 280 South Main St, Stockholm, ME 04783
