Mary Mackerney (Gray)Heller passed away on January 17, 2025 in North Berwick Maine. Mary was born on January 20, 1928 in West Rutland, Vermont.
Mary was the oldest daughter of Frederick Mackerney and Josephine Dwyer. She was predeceased by her sisters Mona and Carol and her brother Joe.
Mary graduated from West Rutland High School in 1945. She was proud to have played basketball and be a cheerleader while attending West Rutland. Mary had many fond memories of growing up in West Rutland.
On July 2,1949, Mary Mackerney and Robert Gray of Proctor Vermont were married. After several years of marriage and a growing young family they moved to Fair Haven, Vermont in 1960. While in Fair Haven Mary had a small daycare, was a proud cub scout den mother, PTA member and a Fair Haven Booster club member. Mary happily worked at Carl Durfee's store from 1973-1993 where she had many friends. She loyally attended hundreds if not thousands of her childrens and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities. She was the neighborhood boss of the southern end of Caernarvon Street for several decades. Throughout her life she loved following the Red Sox and Patriots. She also loved spending time on her arts, painting, handcrafts and others.
Mary's husband Robert died in July of 1971. Mary and Robert were married for 22 years. She is survived by their five sons: Robert (Martha), Michael (Debi), David (Peggy), Thomas and Dan (Jennifer). Mary is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
In 1984 Mary married Bill Heller of Fair Haven Vermont. Bill and Mary were neighbors in Fair Haven and spent nine happy years together traveling and enjoying family. Bill passed away in 1993. Following Bill's death, Mary moved to Eliot, Maine where she watched over 2 of her grandchildren, participated in craft fairs and worked at the Footprints Food Pantry.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Footprints Food Pantry, PO Box 246 Kittery Maine 03904. Mary always wanted to make sure everyone was fed. Care for the Heller/Gray families has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Homes.
