Obituary

Kittery, ME - Mary Snodgrass, 95, passed away at her home on Sunday, February 27, 2022. Mary was born on October 2, 1926, in Portland, Maine.

As a child, she moved with her father from Portland to Kittery. She was married to Melvin Snodgrass Sr on March 22, 1947.  Together they lived their entire lives in the neighborhood where Melvin was raised. There they built their own home and raised their three sons. Before Mary was married and became a homemaker, she worked as a welder for a brief time during the war at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. She was very proud of that service. She also owned a diner with a couple of close friends in Kittery. Mary was a private, but very social person. If you were part of her circle, you felt her great love and caring. She had great empathy for all people and animals.

Her favorite memories to share were of dancing, playing golf, and games of bridge. After her husband passed, she stayed very busy enjoying weekly lunches with her longtime friends, exchanging letters with friends who lived all over the country, and attending bingo and card games at the local recreation centers. She loved animals and especially enjoyed watching the birds and feeding the squirrels around her home.

Mary is predeceased by her husband, Melvin, and her son, Dana. She is survived by her sons, Melvin and David, both of Kittery. Her granddaughter, Shelley and her fiancée, Steve Robinson of Barrington, NH; her grandson, Dana and wife, Jackie and their two children, Dylan and Cara of Vashon Island, WA.

There will be no public services will be held. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA or your local animal shelter. Care of the Snodgrass family has been entrusted to the J S Pelkey and Son Funeral Home.
