Obituary

Kittery- Mary E. Zimmerman, 83, of Haley Road in Kittery died on March 20, 2024 at Edgewood Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, following a short period of failing health.

Mary grew up and attended schools in Kittery. When Mary met her husband Donald, a Marine, shortly after high school they got married and for the next twenty years they spent away while her husband served.  Then they returned and settled back in Kittery with their family.  Mary drove a school bus for many years as a 3rd generation bus driver for the Town of Kittery. After she retired from driving the school bus, she drove for many years for path lab and Lab Corp.

When Mary was younger, she was a Rainbow girl with York Assembly #23, then she went on to become a member of Order of Eastern Star of Piscataqua Chapter #90 in Kittery and then on to Sarah Orne Jewett Chapter #176 in South Berwick. She was very active in Eastern Star where she held many offices, she was most proud when she became Grand Martha serving in 2017-2018. She was also a hillbilly gal of the Grand and Glorious order of the Hillbilly Degree Auxiliary. Are you a turtle?

Mary also loved the CCA kids.  She and her brother John traveled many years going to the retreats. Then when John passed, she continued attending the retreats. She also loved cruising and traveling with her son Michael, and he says she was the #1 Mom, and we all agree.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, her parents, a brother and 2 sisters-in-law.

She leaves behind 4 sons, Donald Kenneth Zimmerman of Corn, Oklahoma, Michael Timothy Zimmerman of Kittery, Mark Stephen and his wife Julia Zimmerman of Eliot, Samuel Joseph Zimmerman of Orlando, Florida and her brother Howard Moulton of Kittery, Maine. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Stephen, Forrest, Dustin and Ruby and nieces and nephews who she loved very much. She also had a special place in her heart for Chris and Deby.

There will be an Eastern Star service Thursday March 28, 2024 promptly at 4 pm followed by visitation for Marys friends from 4-6pm at the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904. Mary's funeral will be celebrated on Friday March 29th at 11am in her church, the First Christian Church at 542 Haley Road Kittery Point Maine 03905.
