South Berwick – Matthew Scott Ballou, 32 of Old South Road in South Berwick died on July 21, 2021 at his home the result of a medical emergency.

Matt was born in Rockland Maine on November 20, 1988 a son of Wendy E. (Brown) Hathoot

He was raised in the Camden/ Lincolnville area and attended local schools graduating from Camden Regional High School in 2006. He began his public safety career in the Lincolnville Fire Department and Knox County Dispatch where he was a valuable member of both agencies.

Following high school he graduated from the Fire Science program at SMCC. After serving as a live in firefighter at Alfred Fire Department he remained in the Southern Maine area joining the City Biddeford Dispatch Center where he worked for many years.

Matty met his loving wife Tiffany (Chase) Ballou in 2016 and together they were married in 2019. He settled in South Berwick in 2016 and quickly became a well loved member of the South Berwick Fire Department. Enjoying serving his community, training with his brother firefighters and becoming a part of their families.

He enjoyed most any out door activity including fishing with his children, riding his motorcycle and being with his family.

Matt is survived by his loving wife Tiffany and their children Olivia, Tucker, Izabella, and Axton,  his mother Wendy E. Hathoot, grandmother Barbara Brown and in laws John T and Wanda Chase, as well as so many wonderful friends.

Friends may visit with his family on Thursday July 29, 2021 from 2pm-5pm in the First Parish Federated Church in South Berwick where a funeral will be celebrated at 5pm. A public safety walk through will commence at 4pm.
