Obituary

Matthew John Casson, 44, of Kittery, Maine, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2026. Born on January 28, 1982, in Lewiston, Maine. Matthew was a man whose warmth and generous spirit left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

An old soul with a bright smile, Matthew had a way of making people feel at ease the moment he walked into a room. He was always giving to his family and friends, whether it was his time, his energy, or simply his presence. If he wasn't lending a hand, he was probably sharing the latest Joe Rogan podcast episode he thought you absolutely needed to hear, flashing that signature grin of his while he told you why. He had a deep love for old country music, the kind of songs that told real stories, and that appreciation for the genuine and timeless was woven into everything about him.

Matthew loved to travel and see new places, always eager to discover what was around the next bend in the road. He was the kind of person who was perpetually fixing something, happiest with a project in front of him and tools in his hands. He also had a passion for drag racing. His greatest love was his job lobstering with Capt. John Borden. He had a great love and respect of the sea. Loved to return to land with stories, pictures and videos to share.

Matthew is survived by his four children, Kara Ann Gilcreast Casson, Maddie Kay Casson, Meadow Day Casson, and Erik Matthew Casson; his mother, Patti A. Hovey; his fathers, John T. Casson and Michael H. Jenkins; and his sister, Amy J. Dame (Gillespie). Two very special nephews William A Dame and James M. Ramsey. He also leaves behind a wide circle of friends and extended family who  loved him dearly.

A time of visitation will take place on Saturday, June 13th, from 2-4p, at the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904.
