Melvin
Snodgrass
Oct 9, 1947 — Apr 24, 2022
Kittery, ME-Melvin T Snodgrass Jr, 74, passed away at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital on the morning of Sunday, April 24, 2022 with his daughter, Shelley, and her fiancé by his side.
Mel was a quiet, gentle man and a deep thinker. He was a proud, generous, and loving father who was passionate about reading and sharing conversations on eastern philosophies, polarity therapy, art, hiking and camping. He also loved a great action film.
Mel grew up in Kittery, in the home that his father built. He often reminisced about adventures growing up there with his two younger brothers; both of whom remained an important part of his family throughout his life.
He lived most of his life in the Seacoast area, but also spent time in Minnesota and Portland, Maine. Over the years, he worked as a draftsman, graphic designer, electrician, but eventually settled in to his true calling as a polarity therapist and photographer.
He felt most at peace in his canoe on the water, backpacking in the mountains, and seeking images in nature to photograph. Mel influenced many by encouraging and inspiring them to follow their dreams.
Melvin is predeceased by his parents, Melvin Sr and Mary, and his brother, Dana. He is survived by his daughter, Shelley, and her fiancé, Steve Robinson of Barrington, NH; his brother, David, of Kittery; his nephew, Dana and wife, Jackie along with their two children, Dylan and Cara of Vashon Island, WA.
A private celebration of life will be held in June. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to New Hampshire State Parks(nhstateparks.org). Care of the Snodgrass family has been entrusted to the J S Pelkey and Son Funeral Home.
