Eliot, ME – Michael Scott Murphy, 77, of Eliot, ME passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 15, 2021. He was the son of John & Agnes Murphy.

Michael attended high school at the American School for the Deaf, Hartford, Connecticut. He loved all sports, but football was second to none and he excelled at in high school.

Michael was totally deaf from birth, but he did not let that deter him from what he accomplished in his life. He was one of the first deaf persons hired by the U.S. Navy as a civilian employee.

There are many firsts that Michael achieved, but there is one that is paramount, and is the precursor to all his success'.  Michael never met a stranger!  He led with his signature smile, proceeded to introduce himself to hearing or non -hearing, and was genuinely open to making friends in both worlds.

Michael was an ambassador of good will to all.  All who knew him will testify to that.  And all who knew him will miss his good cheer, his non-wavering opinions on sports, and his overall charm.

The English are known for having a "stiff upper lip" during hard times. Michael, a true Irishman goes one better; his hard times were met with a smile.

Michael was predeceased in death by his sister Shelaigh Murphy, brother Charles Brosnan, and both his parents.

He is survived by wife Margaret Murphy, son Mark Murphy, sister Janice Blease, and brother Darren Murphy.

Services: A funeral mass will be held Friday, October 1, 2021, at 11AM at St. Raphaels Church, located at 6 Whipple Road, Kittery, ME. There will be a graveside following the service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, located on State Road in Eliot, ME.
