Mildred I.
Hoyt
Sep 1, 1933 — Nov 12, 2024
Eliot – Mildred I. "Millie" Hoyt, 91 of Moses Gerrish Farmer Road in Eliot died on November 12, 2024 at Pinnacle Care in North Berwick following a period of failing health.
Millie was a true Eliot native, born on September 1, 1933, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Isoline (Clough) Fernald, she was raised in Eliot and attended local schools graduating from Eliot High School in 1950.
On April 21, 1951 she married her high school sweetheart and best friend Walter G. Hoyt and together they enjoyed sixty-seven years of marriage. They made Eliot their lifelong home and raised their family.
Early in life she was employed at the former Geo B. French Company a clothing store in Portsmouth, Edgewood Manor as a Nurse's Aide, and a beloved cafeteria worker for MSAD #35 retiring in 1990.
Active in her community Millie was a lifelong member of the Eliot United Methodist Church, member of the Eliot High School Alumni Association, Women of the Moose in Portsmouth, Charter member of the Eliot Every Other Tuesday Club, and a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Eliot Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, volunteered at the Homestead Nursing Home in Kittery and Footprints Food Pantry in Kittery.
Her first love was unquestionably her family, time spent with them was cherished, she was blessed to live just a short distance from all her children, enabling her to be an important and beloved part of her grand and great grandchildren's lives. She was an ardent supporter of the Eliot Fire Department especially the nearly twenty years her husband served as Chief of the Department. She enjoyed anything water related, often found floating in her pool, boating on the river, fishing on the lake, or enjoying the sun and sand at York Beach as a young girl.
Millie is survived by her loving family; daughter Joanne and her husband Jay Muzeroll, sons: Michael W and his wife Tracy Hoyt, Thomas R. and his wife Leslie Hoyt and Brian Hoyt as well as a daughter in law Elizabeth Hoyt all of Eliot. Her grandchildren: Heather, Amanda, Heidi, Adam, Andrew, Alex, Ethan, Kenny, Meagan, Ashley; 13 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, son Dana Hoyt, and her brother Roland Fernald.
Friends are invited to join Millie's family on Friday November 22, 2024 at 11am in the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home where a funeral will be celebrated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Footprints Food Pantry, POB 246, Kittery Maine 03904 or a charity of one's choice.
