South Berick- Mildred "Millie" McCuin passed away Monday morning, August 3, 2015 at Berwick Estates, South Berwick, Maine at the age of 87. In her final days, she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren sharing stories of the joy and laughter she brought to each of their lives. Milly was the daughter of Glen and Stella Leach of Waterville, Vermont. She was sister to Martin, Durwood and Muriel, and the wife of William McCuin all of whom passed prior to her death. Millie is survived by her five children and their families; Debbie and John Channing and their daughter Caitlin, Crys McCuin and her son Josh Mann, Jim and Ruth McCuin and their daughter Ashley, Jackie and Tom Gilbert and Jackie's daughter Erin; Barbara and Ged McGaughey and their children, Emily and Sam. In addition to her children, she leaves many nieces, nephews and their children, two sisters-in-law, Joyce McCuin and Becky McCuin, a brother-in-law, Kenneth Deuso, along with more friends in Vermont, New York and Maine than can be counted. Millie lived a life dedicated to her family which extended well beyond her immediate circle. Considered "information central" by her children, she was the conduit for all news and updates on all family matters. She loved unconditionally and for life. She was a notorious worrier as well and was not set for the evening until she knew her children and grandchildren were all accounted for and safe in their respective locales particularly if the weather was bad; and she was not above calling the police to get confirmation. Millie lived for her children. Their happiness was her greatest joy. She was always supportive but encouraged them to move beyond any difficulties they confronted, take the high road, and remember "nothing is forever." Milly especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren developing rich and unique relationships with each of them. She reveled in their successes, comforted them in their losses, and lovingly vowed retribution to anyone who "hurt their feelings". Holidays, summertime and vacations revolved around gathering her family together for good food, laughter, stories, and making memories. Millie served as an example of hard work, commitment to family and friendship, and endurance. Whether waitressing, helping on the farm, or managing the household, Milly demonstrated her respect and belief in the value of work and supporting her husband and family. At difficult times, she was able to persevere with grace, dignity, and humor - she never lost that, even at the end. In her last days, her humor prevailed offering her dry wit and beautiful smile to those who were blessed to sit by her side as she transitioned. She gave of herself until the very end.
