Obituary

Kittery Point- Mildred P. Raynes 90, of Pocahontas Road in Kittery Point died unexpectedly on March 11, 2017 at Bingham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Born in Vinalhaven, Maine on June 23, 1926 she was a daughter of Charles and Ruth (Chandler) Philbrook. She attended local schools graduating from Vinalhaven High School.
Millie came to the Seacoast following school and met her loving husband Lester Raynes and together they moved to Kittery Point where they raised their family and were arguably the best example of what neighbors should be. While working as a baker at Mitchell School she cared for neighbors children and was often thought of by many grown children today as a second mother. and maintained a very active lifestyle enjoying her exercise classes in York twice a week.
She was the neighborhood caretaker watching houses , keeping dogs, watering plants or whatever was needed. She was a special sweet lady with a sharp mind, quick wit, adventurous spirit, positive attitude and a big smile. She touched a lot of lives and will be sorely missed.
At home she enjoyed cooking, reading and bus trips with friends as well as visits to Florida with family.
She is survived by her family whom she loved dearly, her husband Lester Raynes of Kittery Point, daughter Sally and her husband Roger Neihart , grandchildren; Elizabeth Ogalvie Pelletier and her husband Phil, Alexander Ogalvie and his wife Jenna Gorecki, Jeannine Dewhurst and her husband Jeff, and Andrew L'Itailan, great grandchildren Zoie, Zane, Maggie and Willow, siblings Madeline Hildings, Arlene Johnson, and Lawrence and Harold Philbrook, as well as her son in law Bruce L'Italian many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Carolyn and her brothers Frank and Carl.
A memorial service will be celebrated at her church , the First Christian Church on Haley Road on Saturday, June 24th at 10AM followed by a reception at the Raynes residence on Gerrish Island.
