Obituary

Somersworth New Hampshire-Naomi Frances (Smith) Cunningham 91,a resident of Rosewood Manor in Gonic, died peacefully on January 30, 2016 following a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. Born June 30, 1924 to John and Gertrude Foster (Smith), Naomi attended Gorham Maine schools and graduated from Gorham high school. On November 11, 1950, she married James C Cunningham and raised two sons together until his passing 35 years later in 1985. Naomi was a member of the First Congregational Church in Somersworth for many years before becoming a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Somersworth where she was later baptized. She found her true passion in life helping others after becoming a certified nurses aide in the early 1970s. She worked in many local nursing homes as well as private in-home nursing care. Naomi had a contagious smile and laugh and new how to bring out the best in everyone. Naomi appreciated the small things in life and never take anything for granted.Naomi's pride and joy his always been her family. She could not have love them anymore. She was a faithful and loving mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and dear friend to so many people. She had the biggest heart and was not afraid to share with others. Naomi was known for her famous peanut butter fudge, her love of yard sales and frequent visits to the dollar tree. Naomi was also known as for her beautiful blue eyes. She loved every kind of music and had the voice of an angel even at 91 years of age. She is predeceased by her husband James in 1985 and son Rick James Cunningham in 2000 and her two sisters Esther O'Connor and Ruth Kelly. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is now home safe again with the Lord. She is survived by her son John Cunningham and his wife Kathryn of Barrington New Hampshire, her grandchildren Joshua, Ryan and Jadyn and daughter of the late Rick Cunningham Cayla Cunningham of Hampton New Hampshire. Friends are invited to visit with Naomi's family on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Bernier Funeral home 49 South St., Somersworth, NH 03878. A celebration of life will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Faith Baptist Church at 25 Cemetery Rd. in Somersworth, NH 03878.On,one condolences may be made day visiting www.bernierfuneralhome.com.in lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Chad Foundation at www.CHdD at Dartmouth.Care for the Cunningham family has been entrusted to the Bernier Funeral Home.
