Eliot-Mr. Neil Curtis Lund died peacefully at home on October 17, 2015 in Eliot, Maine at the age of 83. Neil is survived by his wife, Celia Lund; children, Julie Martin (Wayne) of Gig Harbor, WA, Cheryl Rice(Eric) of Turlock, CA, Theodore Lund (Molly) of Chester, CT, and Randall Lund of Wytheville, VA; siblings, Fred Lund of Pembroke, Maine, Darrell Lund of Ossining, NY; grandchildren, Amanda Lund Traore, Abygale Lund, Garth Lund, Laura Martin, Kevin Martin, Katie Rice, Evan Rice, and Aaron Rice; and 5 great-grandchildren, Parker Rice, Noah Rice, Mason Martin, Aaron Jr., and Blake. He is preceded in death by his mother, Edith (Mahar) Lund, his father, Fred Lund, his sisters, Betty Davis and Helen Lund, and his brothers, Frank and Kendall. Neil Lund was born on August 24, 1932 in Pembroke, Maine, the 5th of 7 brothers and sisters. Hegraduated from Pembroke High School in 1950 and served in the Army from 1950 to 1953. Hemarried Celia Williamson, his high school sweetheart, on Christmas Eve in 1954 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2014. After moving to Springfield, MA, he began working for Cheney Bigelow Wiring Weaving Company, working his way up to the position as foreman and later moved to Madison, CT to work as foremen with Atlantic Wire Company of Branford, CT. Over their first 5 yearsof marriage, the couple welcomed 4 children into their home and set about teaching them a love of family, sports, and all kinds of outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, boating, and water and snow skiing. His children all graduated from college and are successful in their own professions. His children remember their Dad as a kind and patient father who loved them deeply and encouraged them to pursue their goals, become productive citizens, enjoy the outdoors in Down East Maine, and develop a love of adventure and travel across the United States. Neil Lund was accomplished at playing baseball, fishing and hunting and would often be seen out on his lobster boat tending his traps or making his daily walks in the neighborhood, rain or shine. He is fondly remembered by the staff of the Eliot Recycling Center where he worked in his later years. Hewas generous with his time and coached little league baseball and never missed seeing his children compete in athletic events or watching his beloved Boston Red Sox. He loved his dog, Frankie, who was by his beside until the end. He loved to travel and visited Europe, Australia, Tasmania, Alaska, and Mexico. He was an active resident of Eliot, Maine and a dear friend and inspiration to his neighbors. A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on October, 24, 2015 at the First Congregational Church in Eliot, Maine, with a reception to follow at the church. Reverend Beth Hoffman of the First Congregational Church will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Neil Lund's life.
