Obituary

Nellie Dunlap McKay, 91, of Kittery ME., born May 8, 1927, passed away after a period of declining health.  She was the daughter of Prudence and Guy Dunlap of Bath, ME. Nellie leaves behind 7 children: Carol Sue Grover of Kittery, ME.; Judith Ashmore of South Berwick, ME.; Joanne McKay of South Berwick, ME.; Joseph McKay of Lewiston, ME.; Robert McKay and partner Carol Thompson of Kittery, ME.; Reginald McKay and partner Vicki Davis of Kittery, ME.; Stephen McKay of York, ME., and 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She also leaves behind two dear friends, Elaine Curry of York and Roy Helsel of Portsmouth, NH.

She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Joseph (Mickey) McKay; 2 brothers, John and George Dunlap and her daughter-in-law, Susan McKay (wife of Stephen).

She was well known for over 25 years as hostess and dining room manager of Vallee's Steak House.  Her extensive community activities over the years included past Regent of DAR, The Mayflower Society, Altrusa, Eliot Garden Club, Kittery Historical and Naval Museum, Kittery Woman's Club, and American Legion Auxiliary.

Nellie loved antique shopping and she and her husband especially loved collecting antique clocks.  Each child was given a grandfather clock.  She will also be remembered for her baklava, which she made during the holidays for her family and friends.

Services will be held privately for family members, and interment will be at Orchard Grove cemetery in Kittery.  Family flowers only.  Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of America, Eighth Ave. 7th floor, New York, Ny 10001.

Care of the McKay family has been entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home.
