Kittery - Nelson B. Gyurko passed away on Friday, September 28th after complications due to Parkinson's.  He will be missed immensely by all his family and friends.

Nelson grew up in Torrington, Connecticut and graduated in the top of his class from Torrington High School.  He later received his Bachelor's in Engineering from RPI in New York.   While a student at RPI, he met Marie Cotnoir, and they wed shortly after his graduation.  After receiving multiple job offers, Nelson accepted a position with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he worked for over 40 years.

Nelson had a passion for music.  As the son of a musician, he learned to play the violin and piano at five years of age.  He played the piano in his father's band and continued to play for his family throughout his life.  Nelson also had a love for convertibles.  He always owned one and he enjoyed tuning them up, waxing them, and driving around town during warm summer days.  His favorite car was his 1968 GTO.

Nelson's pride and joy was always his two girls and his four grandchildren.  He spent most of his free time with his family.  He was always warm and caring and there was no end to the love he could give.

Nelson was predeceased by his loving wife of over 50 years, Marie.  He was survived by his two daughters Kristina Bertrand and her husband John Bertrand of Rochester NH, Lisa Gyurko and her partner Rudy Sawyer of Buxton, Maine; and his four grandchildren, Donovan and Tianna Bertrand, Ella and Leah Sawyer.

Services: Friends may visit with Nelson's family on Friday, October 5th, 11am-1pm at the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery.
