Obituary

Norbert Noel Dumont, 95, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Wentworth Douglass Hospital. He was born in Somersworth, N.H. in 1928 to Bernadette (Lessard) Dumont and John Dumont.

Norbert (Nobby) graduated from Somersworth High School, married Jeannette Gagnon on April 26, 1954, and together raised five children. He has worked at General Electric in multiple positions throughout his career.

As a lifelong resident of Somersworth and Dover, he touched the lives of many in the area. He had a positive outlook and loved making others laugh. With the early death of his father, he instilled a strong work ethic in his family. He and Jeannette sacrificed to ensure a good education for their children as well as providing camping trips and other outdoor activities. He was a parishioner of St Martin / St Ignatius, participating in many church activities, including Pack 195 Boy Scouts.

With people in his family, he traveled to many places, including Florida, South Dakota, California, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, and France.
He was in the National Guard 195th Infantry from 1948 to 1954 as Sergeant Grade E5, squad leader, 2nd Class Gunner, and Marksman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Marie Rivière, The Works, and informal religious groups. Upon retirement, he spent many years volunteering at Wentworth Douglass Hospital and working part-time at Russell Stover. He and his wife Jeannette were longtime participants in Square Dancing with groups including Silver Squares, Jesters, and Silhouettes. He became very skilled at leatherwork, gifting his friends and family beautiful creations. His hobbies included playing the harmonica, card games, woodworking, latch hook rugs, mosaic, and diamond dot projects. His love, kindness, and caring has touched the lives of many, and his spirit lives on through us.

Norbert is survived by his children: Ron Dumont and wife Sherry in California, Diane Dupuis and husband Jim in Florida, Russ Dumont and wife Debbie in Florida, and Terri Dumont and husband Mike Gillispie in South Dakota. His daughter Sue passed away in 2001 from complications due to diabetes. His grandchildren are Nicholas Dumont, Kyle Dumont, Cara (Alex) Beyer, Rachel (Michael) Jensen, Catie (Chris) Gunter, and Lindsay (Evan) Towns. He also experienced the joy of seven great-grandchildren.
