Kittery, Maine- Olive Irene Emery Gray, 92, of Government Street, died peacefully at Durgin Pines in Kittery, Maine on Sunday, January 15, 2017 surrounded by family and loved ones.

Olive was born the eldest of six children to the late William and Hazel (Buzzell) Stevens of Newport, Maine on May 8, 1924. She graduated from Newport High in 1942.

While in high school Olive worked for The Hart Seed Company where she met her future husband, Kenneth Ross Emery, in the onion patch. They married in 1942 and in the same year moved to Kittery, Maine where they raised their four wonderful children, Olga Spooner, Donna Grabofsky, Carroll Emery, and Joyce Rasque. Olive worked for the Kittery Highway Department as a secretary, and later for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail clerk in Kittery Point, ME and Portsmouth, NH where she retired in 1988.

She was a long standing, dedicated member of NARFE, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the American Postal Workers' Union and St. Marks Methodist Church in Kittery, Maine.

Olive is predeceased by her husband Kenneth Ross Emery, 2 siblings Norman L. Stevens and Margaret Stevens Bean as well as son-in-law Freeland 'Burky' Spooner. She leaves 3 siblings Doris Cutten, William Stevens, and Marilyn Smith, 4 children, Olga Spooner widow of Freeland 'Burky' of Somersworth, NH; Donna Grabofsky and John of Corinth, Maine; Carroll Emery and Joanie of Kittery, Maine; Joyce Rasque and Stuart of Eliot, Maine; eleven grandchildren, Kelly Stowell Melvin, Kenneth Stowell, Kristen Spooner Fuller, Jennifer Grabofsky Potvin, Robert Grabofsky, Meghan Emery Atwater, Brenna Emery Hillock, Carol Emery, Heather Rasque Ross, Karen Rasque Hughes and Aaron Pyle; 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Services: A time of visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME. A funeral service will be held at 11am at the funeral home on Friday, January 20, 2017, with The Rev. Dr. Bruce Boria, officiating.
