Paul T
Galvin
May 6, 1953 — Apr 14, 2021
South Berwick- Paul T. Galvin passed away peacefully on April 14th, 2021 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital surrounded by the presence and love of his children Tim, Meghan, and Kate. He is also survived by his sister Rosemary; his sister in law Connie; his grandchildren Natalie, Connor, Erin, Maddie, Sarah, Ellie and Aiden; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John "Jack" Galvin and his parents.
The son of Eleanor (Cox) and Timothy Galvin, Paul was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts on May 6th, 1953. He often liked to claim that he was brought home from the Stoneham Zoo since the hospital he was born at no longer exists.
After a short stint in Cambridge, Paul grew up in Natick, Massachusetts, graduating from Natick High School in 1971. One of the most common stories told from this period in Paul's life is the many Friday and Saturday night parties in his parent's basement where he painted the entire McDonald's menu on his mother's basement wall (which still exists today). Paul attended Suffolk University, earning a bachelor's degree in business, and later earned an MBA from New Hampshire College.
Paul was heavily involved in the community, participating in just about every youth sports program while his children were growing up in some way. He chaperoned many school trips and attended many marching band performances.
During his life he was an avid Boston sports fan and could out debate the talk radio hosts on any Boston sports topic. He truly loved rooting for the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, and Celtics in the good times of the last 2 decades and the poor seasons before them. When the Red Sox did not make the playoffs he would often root for "whoever's playing against the Yankees."
One of the cornerstones of Paul's life was his belief in service. He set the example and served the community faithfully for many years at South Berwick Rescue. He joined the Rescue Squad in the 1990's, and spent a significant amount of time as the chief of the department. While he had many stories from the many calls he participated in, one of the achievements he was most proud of from his time with Rescue was earning his stork pin. In addition, he could be found many Friday and Saturday nights answering 911 calls at South Berwick Dispatch.
Paul also made long lasting friendships through his "professional" career at Honeywell, Data General, Cabletron, Enterasys and finally Extreme Networks.
Paul was a friend, mentor, and pillar of the South Berwick community for decades. He was well known through the community, and made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Paul was well loved and sorely missed by his family and those who knew him. His memory will be held onto dearly by those who were blessed to have known him.
Per Paul's wishes, a public wake will be held at the J.S. Pelkey and Son Funeral home 125 Old Post Road Kittery, ME on Friday April 23rd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. His funeral will regrettably be by invitation due to COVID restrictions.
