Obituary

Eliot, ME – Philip O. Drake, 90, passed away peacefully at home with his loving husband by his side on Sunday, June 13, 2021. He was born in York, ME, July 31, 1930, the son of Maurice J. and Anna L. (Quimby) Drake.

Mr. Drake owned and operated McIntosh College in Dover, NH for 25 years, as well as being an instructor in accounting and other business subjects and was treasurer of the college corporation from 1958 to 1979. It was during this time that the college moved to Cataract Avenue and was allowed to grant an associate degree as a Junior College of Business.

He was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, NH. While organist at the United Methodist Church of Eliot for over 40 years, he was treasurer of the church for many years. In the Maine Annual Conference, he served as Conference Auditor for 31 years, and as a member of the Board of Higher Education and Ministry.

A member of Naval Lodge, No. 184, AF & AM, of Kittery. He was also a member of the York bodies in ME, the Scottish Rite Bodies in NH, and Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston, ME. Over the years, he was a substitute organist for many regular and special meetings of several groups.

As an 11 th generation descendant of Robert Drake of England, he belonged to the Piscataquis Pioneers. His interest in genealogy led him to search other New England lines.

He is survived by Daniel J Blanchette, his life partner for 41 years, who he married in 2013. He had several cousins.

Services: A memorial mass will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 18, 2021, at St John's Episcopal Church, 101 Chapel St, Portsmouth, NH, 03801.

The family has asked that instead of flowers, donations may be made to the music fund at St Johns Episcopal Church; in the memo, please write "music program."
