Obituary

Kittery Point—Phylis C. (Graves) Leon left our lives peacefully on September 20, 2024, surrounded by love and family. She was the youngest daughter of Leon and Florence Graves and was born on February 8, 1934, in Unity, NH. She graduated from Stephen's Memorial High School in Claremont, NH, and worked as a bank teller until she married.

She married Norman D. Leon on July 10, 1954, in Keene, NH, and moved to Dover, NH. Together, they had five children, the fifth being born in NJ, where they settled in Randolph, NJ. Phylis went on to work as a bookkeeper for the Morris County Sheriff's office in Morristown, NJ, until relocating back to New England to Kittery Point, ME. Phylis was an avid reader, gardener, and loved all sorts of puzzles. She became a member of First Christian Church in Kittery, ME, where she participated in all aspects of church life, including social groups and charity events.  She was also a DAR Daughters of the American Revolution Ranger Chapter member.

Phylis is preceded in death by her husband, Norman D.; parents, Leon and Florence Graves; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Morris Clark; and brother, Leon (Joe) and sister-in-law, Shirley Graves.

Phylis is survived by her five children: Gail Sweeney and husband Charlie; Daniel Leon and partner Patricia Hasegawa; Brenda Leon and husband Patrick Bambrick; Diane Bonin and husband Eric; Norman C Leon and wife Lee Leon; and twelve grandchildren and five Great-Grandchildren.

Services will be held on September 30 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church Kittery Point, ME, and burial will be on October 1st at 12 p.m. in Springvale, ME, at the Southern Maine Veteran's Cemetery.

Arrangements are made by J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home and First Christian Church.
