York Beach - Phyllis Keene Hilton, 87, of Main Street, York Beach died on October 17, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis was a true native, born in York on August 29, 1928, the daughter of John and Marguerite (Weare) Keene. She was a graduate of York High School and earned her Accounting Degree in Augusta, Georgia. Phyllis was married to her loving husband, Frederick Arthur Hilton, for 61 years. They raised their family of three in a house built by Fred. While her children were young Phyllis worked from home and as a substitute teacher in the York School System. Later she worked as an accountant for Mike Calo and then for Cummings, Lamont &McNamee. She was a long time member of the Union Congregational Church, where she served as treasurer of the Ladies' Aid for many years. She also volunteered at the York Library, the Band /Athletic Boosters, and the York Historical Society. She and her husband are well remembered by family, friends, and neighbors as the graceful couple dancing in the gazebo at Ellis Park each summer. She is predeceased by her husband, Fred, and a sister, Roberta White of California. She is survived by: her sister, Irene Downing of York; her son, Jim, and his wife, Pam, and their ten children of Durham, NH; a daughter, Peg, and her husband, Chuck, and their daughter of York; and a daughter, Cathy, and her husband, Joel, and their two children of York; as well as the many great grandchildren she adored. Friends are invited to a memorial service on October 31, 2015 at 11 AM at the Union Congregational Church, York Beach. A time of sharing and refreshments will follow in the church parish hall.
