Obituary

Rye - Phyllis M. Lawry, 85, formerly of Rye, New Hampshire, and a lifelong resident of the Seacoast, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.

She was born on February 2, 1930 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, a daughter of Edgar and Della (Schoff) Vancour.
In the late 1960's, Phyllis was employed at The Pirates Cove Restaurant at Rye Beach where she could mix the perfect cocktail, and from 1975 to 1985 she was employed at Data General in Portsmouth.

She enjoyed Bingo, playing the slots at casinos, playing cards and scratch tickets along with spending time with her friends and family. She was a joy to be around as she always found the funny side of a situation. She treated everyone with respect and was always available to listen. She will be deeply missed. She was a member of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth and the Golden Age Club in Portsmouth.

She moved to Florida in the 80's to be a snowbird but eventually returned to New England to be closer to her family year round.

She is predeceased by her husband Edward Weston Lawry of whom she shared 58 wonderful years together along with a daughter Diana, a sister Ethel Maloney, a sister Priscilla Destefano and brother Edgar (Stubby) Vancour.
Survivors include a brother Arthur Vancour and wife Sheila of Portsmouth; a sister Beverly Kinch of Ocala, FL, a sister Betty Lou Ryder of Wolfeboro, NH; a sister Gloria Fournier of Brentwood, NH; daughter Linda Morris and husband Terry of Rye, NH; son Edward (Chip) and wife Susan of North Hampton, NH; grandchildren Terry Morris, Jr. and wife Susan of Fairbanks, AK; David Morris of Meadville, PA; Gregory Morris & wife Krista of Mustang, OK; Nathan Lawry and wife Kelly of Hampton, NH; Abby Lawry and partner Katie McMaster of Portsmouth, NH; Kayla Burke and husband John of San Diego, CA; along with 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Services: Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Jude's Hospital or the DAV.
