Kittery – Phyllis L. Lewis, of Kittery, Maine passed away peacefully at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth on Saturday, August 6, 2016.

Born May 3, 1920, Phyllis was the daughter of Arthur W. Jr. and Maude D. (Champion) Lewis.

She graduated from R. W. Traip Academy, Class of 1937.

Phyllis was employed at Atherton Furniture Store and Granite State Fire Insurance Co. in Portsmouth, NH; Mutual Broadcasting in New York, NY and retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in October 1979 after 30 years of service.

She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps 1944 – 1946 and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War from 1950 – 1952.

Phyllis was a member of NARFE and a Charter Member of the Women's Armed Forces Memorial in Washington DC.

Phyllis was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph W. Lewis and Roger L. Lewis and two sisters, Virginia Peterson and Doris Josephson. She is survived by niece, Sharon Pierce of Coventry, RI; nephew, Alvin Lewis of Villanueva, NM; nephew, Roger Lewis Jr. of Wesley Chapel, FL; nephew, Kevin Haggerty of Hampton, VA; nephew, Arthur Peterson of Stanwood, WA; and niece, Helen Faye Petrack of Pomona, CA. Also surviving are several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Friends and family wish to thank the staff at the Edgewood Centre and Brookhaven Hospice for the compassionate and loving attention Phyllis received in their care.

At Phyllis' request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery, ME on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 11:00 am.
