Somersworth, N.H. - Rachel Elizabeth Garneau Lemelin, 99, of Somersworth died peacefully at her home on Friday May 5, 2017.
Born March 14, 1918 in Saint-Fortunat, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of Edouard Garneau and Rose Anna Croteau Garneau. In 1925, at age 7, she along with 13 siblings and her parents, emigrated to the United States . She proudly became a naturalized citizen and lived many years in Rollingsford, NH and then Somersworth.
She is survived by her daughter Estelle Lemelin Momrow (David); grandson Scott Momrow (Tracy), granddaughter Kristin Momrow Darby (Brian), and granddaughter Amy Momrow; 8 great grandchildren: Connor, Taylor and Schuyler Momrow and Rachel, Aidan, Cassidy, Owen, and Liam Darby. In addition she is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Paul Emile Lemelin, her 7 sisters and 6 brothers, and several nieces and nephews.
Rachel worked in the Woolen Mills in Limerick, Maine in the mid 1930's and as a sample stitcher at both Miller and Dover Shoe for over 40 years. She retired in 1983. She enjoyed spending time at her cottage at Wells Beach, Maine.
The family is grateful for the loving support provided by longtime family friend Richard Boulanger, and the kind caregiving of Anne Marie Beaudoin, Lisa Landry and Dolores LaVallee as well as Janice Wolfendale, RN of Brookhaven Hospice.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations in her name to Holy Trinity Church, 404 High St., Somersworth, N.H. 03878. A Memorial Mass will be held at a date to be announced.
