Rochester – Raymond Joseph Hebert, 87, died Saturday, June 20, 2020, surrounded by his family.
Ray was born in Somersworth, NH on October 22, 1932. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on a minesweeper. He was co-owner of Hebert's Supermarket in Somersworth, with his brothers Roland and Donald for over 30 years. He later worked as a Security Guard at St. Andrews Club, Delray Beach, FL and a Host at Dolly Copp National Forest Service Campground in Gorham, NH.
Ray worked with boy scouts and helped build a camp for girl scouts. Ray and his wife, Jewel, traveled to locations around the world and the country for decades. They square danced for 30 years attending square dance conventions around the country. In their travels, they attended RV conventions and built houses with the Family Motor Coach group for 10 years with Habitat for Humanity.
Ray was a Past President of the Catholic War Veterans, a life member of American Legion, Post 69 Somersworth, NH, and a life member of Knights of Columbus. Ray was also a Catholic War Veteran member of Post 1755 Somersworth, NH, a member of the Somersworth Lions Club, and a member of Family Motor Coach Association.
Ray was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Ray and Jewel celebrated their 64 th anniversary last week on June 16, 2020. Ray is survived by his wife Jewel, his daughter Debra and her husband Donald Casey, his daughter Donna and her husband John Nettleton, his son David and his wife Sharon, his son Dan and his wife Melisa, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; his brother Donald and sister Rita Buster and many nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his parents Louis and Marie Rouleau Hebert, his brother Roland Hebert and sister Lorraine Mailhot.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 10:30 at St. Ignatius of Loyola at 120 Maple Street, Somersworth, NH 03878 (formerly St. Martin's). The funeral will also be online at www.stignatius-stmary.org , just scroll down and click "Join the Mass". Every person who attends is required to wear a facemask. A graveside service will follow the mass at St. Martin's Cemetery on Maple Street, Somersworth, NH. It is requested that masks be worn at the cemetery also.
