Obituary

Somersworth - Raymond J. Lapointe, 80, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at Riverside Rest Home.

He was born March 25, 1938 in Rochester, NH, the son of Blanche A. (Bolduc) and Alfred M. Lapointe.

Ray served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from service he started his career at Textron and retired there. He was a graduate of Saint Hyacinth Seminary.

Ray was a life member of American Legion Post 69 of Somersworth, where he served as Commander from 1972-1976, and as Adjutant and Funeral detail leader. He also served as the American Legion State Chaplain as well as State Commander. Raymond was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1755 where he received the National Saint Sebastian Award. Ray was instrumental in revitalizing the CWV. He dedicated his life to the support of all veterans. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Somersworth.

Raymond was a life-long communicant of St. Martin church.

Members of his family are his sisters, Anna M. Lapointe Chick, Arlene M. Lapointe Fall and her husband David, and his brother Robert J. Lapointe all of Somersworth. Other family members are nieces Stefanie McKuen, Victoria Harrison, Amber St. Hilaire, Kristen Lyle Grace Box ,Nicole Box Nesta, Joyce Box  and Ashley Lapointe, nephews; Rodney St. Hilaire, Tyler Lyle, Jason Gorton, Timothy Lapointe, Gregory Lapointe, David Fall Jr., Dennis Fall and Nicholas Lapointe.

Raymond was predeceased by his parents, brother, Leo Lapointe, niece, Robin A St. Hilaire Lyle, Katheryn Box, and nephew, Ralph F. St. Hilaire.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Riverside Rest Home for the wonderful care they provided to Raymond.

Services: A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, from 4-7p at the Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South Street, Somersworth. Legion services will take place promptly at 6p during the visitation hours. A funeral service will be held at St Martin's Catholic Church, 120 Maple St., Somersworth,  on Thursday, August 2, at 1:00p. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Raymond's memory may be made to St. Ignatius Parish 404 High Street Somersworth, NH 03878.  To leave online condolences please visit www.bernierfuneralhome.net .
