Obituary

Eliot- Raymond E. Wetzel, 78 of State Road in Eliot died on November 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sussex, NJ on April 29, 1938 a son of Robert and Emma (Storms) Wetzel.

He met and married his loving wife of fifty-seven years Virginia (Dame) Wetzel and together they have made their home in Eliot for many years where they raised their family.

Ray proudly served his country as a United States Marine from 1957-1960. He also worked for many years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he retired as a general foreman. Prior to his time at the shipyard he was a valued employee at Davis Oil Service in Eliot where he knew and was enjoyed by many customers over the years. He worked for nine years for S&J Construction in Eliot as a delivery driver.

Active in his community Ray served on the Eliot Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Boothbay Harbor for many summers.

His first love was unquestionably his family, he is survived by his loving wife Virginia, his son Randy and his wife Lanie Wetzel of East Rochester, daughter Terri Wetzel of MO, and son Rick Wetzel of Eliot, three beloved grandchildren Amanda Phalon of York, Kyle Wetzel of Eliot and Joshua Wetzel of East Rochester, great grandson Odin Phalon, brothers and sisters Robert, Bernard and John Wetzel and Janet Hebert and Barbara Cook. He was predeceased by his son Raymond Jr in 2008 and brothers Philip and Harold.

Friends are invited to visit with Ray's family on Tuesday from 4-7 pm in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904. A funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am in the First Congregational Church of Eliot UCC at 1361 State Road Eliot Maine 03903 with a time of sharing and refreshment to follow in the church parish hall.
