Eliot - Richard John "Dick" Jumper, 84 of State Road in Eliot, died on September 1, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Portland Maine on October 25, 1939, he was a son of the late L. Royal and Elsie (Nielsen) Jumper. He was raised in Portsmouth and attended local schools, graduating from Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1958.
Following High School he entered the United States Navy serving honorably from 1957 to 1960. Following discharge, he began a career spanning over thirty-eight years from 1960 to 1998 at the Portsmouth Herald, working in production and composing. He also enjoyed working as a painter in his spare time.
In 1982 while dancing in a local dance hall in Rollinsford he met and would marry the love of his life Judy (Jewitt) Jumper and together they made their home for the next forty-two years in Eliot. They bought a camp on Swan Pond in Waterboro, Maine and enjoyed many years of fun and family there, especially times with his grandchildren, Brian, Lauren, Nicole, Travis, Jeff, Melonie, and Sierra as well as so many other family members. They also enjoyed a home for over twenty-five years in Venice Florida and made many lifelong friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Judy, sons Steven C. of Dover, NH and Scott A. Jumper of Rochester, NH, and his four children and great grandchild, extended family, Mike and Karen Mackenzie of Eliot, Jeff and Brenda Mackenzie of Florida, a son in law Jeff Rankin of Corinth Maine, sister in law Rosalee Jumper and Rowan McNamara of New York, and his nine grand and thirteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Jennifer Rankin, a sister Cheryl Vitale and brother Robert E. Jumper.
Friends are invited to visit with Dick's family on Saturday September 7, 2024 from 11-noon in the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904 where a Funeral will be celebrated at noon, followed by a luncheon at the Regatta Room in Eliot.
