KITTERY – Richard "Dick" Johnson, 65, died suddenly at his home following a cardiac event. Born in Eustis, FL on May 28, 1953, he was a son of Benjamin E. Johnson and Betty (Huntoon) Fiore.
He attended Kittery schools graduating from R. W. TraipAcademy (Class of 1971) where he excelled in basketball, track and field.
At the early age of 19, he began a lifelong and well respected career in the construction industry first as Johnson Construction, then culminating in Pine Brook Corporation. Projects throughout the region include the Berwick Academy Sports Complex, the Brick Memorial Wall at Traip Academy and the Lewis Farm Conservancy Residential Development.
He purchased the Mrs. & Me property on Route 1 from the original owners, the Wilson Family, in 2007 and re-opened the ice cream shop as well as bringing an anchor tenant, Dunkin Donuts, to the location.
Dick was an avid outdoorsman enjoying time spent on his boat, "Big Strong Girl" navigating the Piscataqua River and beyond. He enjoyed New England sports teams and earlier in life enjoyed jogging with one or two of his many golden retrievers over the years. He always cherished time with family and friends and time supporting the community in which he grew up. He was a great humanitarian helping those in need and supporting many fund raising events during his lifetime.
Survivors include his mother Betty Huntoon Fiore of Kittery, son Michael, his wife Jennifer and their children Parker and Jarod Johnson, brother Joe Johnson, and nephew John Nelson. Additional survivors are longtime friend and business partner Ann Roberge and friend Beth Verity, his beloved dog Logan, as well as many cousins, close friends and business associates.
He was predeceased by his father, sisters Deborah, Darlene and Linda Nelson who was the former office manager at Pine Brook Corporation.
Friends may visit with Dick's family Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 4 – 7 PM at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904.
