Robert "Bob"
Contreras
May 19, 1959 — Feb 10, 2021
Portsmouth, NH - Robert "Bob" Eugene Contreras, 61, is having one wild and happy reunion in Heaven with his brother and father.
Bob passed away on February 10, 2021 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, after a short illness.
He was born on May 19, 1959 at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma to Joaquin "Jack" and Alice Contreras. As the third child of a career military man, his family moved and traveled often. The list of states he did not live in -- or at least visited -- is much smaller compared to those he did, a fact of which he was very proud.
Bob followed in his father's footsteps by joining the U.S. Army in 1980. He became a paratrooper in the 82 nd Airborne Division. He left the Army as an E5 sergeant, but the military lifestyle stayed in his blood, as shown in his many tattoos, close bonds with military friends, and his hilarious stories.
Bob enjoyed a good laugh and joke – most of the time at the expense of his family, friends, or co-workers. He loved a cold Bud Light, earning him the nickname Bud Light Bob at his favorite bars. He loved adventures while off-roading in his modified Jeep. He also loved his gun collection, taking pride when his daughter and son eventually learned to out-shoot him.
Bob was a source of comfort to his family after the passing of his brother, Jim Contreras, in 2017 and father, Jack Contreras, just two years later. His family is taking comfort in knowing they're all laughing, cracking a cold one, and swapping Army stories again.
Bob leaves behind his wife, Vikki, daughter Maggie (& Chris) of Charlotte, North Carolina, son Mathew (& Sarah) of Newmarket, New Hampshire, his mother, sisters Deborah and Sandy, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and brothers in arms.
Bob wasn't a flower guy, so in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a group dear to his heart – Mission 22. A date for his service will be set at a later time.
Care for the Contreras family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Home.
