Eliot- Robert Armstrong Nichols, 81 of Eliot died on November 8, 2017 at Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Wrentham, MA on July 27, 1936 he was raised with his brothers on his family's farm in Washington, Maine.

He attended local schools , graduating from Eliot High School with the class of 1954.

After serving his country in the United States Coast Guard, Bob joined the Maine State Police in 1959, retiring as a Captain in 1979. After retirement, Bob spent over thirty years working with dear family friends at Abbott Brothers in York, retiring in 2011.

Bobs greatest joy was his family. Whether hunting, fishing or camping, time spent together was his most cherished time.

He is survived by his loving wife Janice (Osgood) Nichols, sons; Rob Nichols and his wife Becky, Rodney and his wife Lisa Nichols, grandchildren; Robert "Buck" Nichols, twin granddaughters Reagan and Reilly Nichols, Matt Nichols, Jackson, Galvin, Alli and Gary Whidden , great grandchildren ; Savannah Whidden, Jase Whidden, John-Mason Whidden, and a brother, Norman Hanson and his wife Vicki. He was predeceased by his parents; Marguerite Silvey Hanson and Charles Nichols; step father Norman Hanson, and his brothers; Charles, John, and Donald Nichols.

Friends are invited to join his family on Tuesday at 10 am in the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery 82 Stanley Road Springvale, Maine 04083 for a Graveside service and military honors.
