Kittery - Robert A. Walker, longtime Kittery resident, passed away on May 7, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88.
He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 27, 1932 to Russell and Theresa Walker. He moved with his family to Kittery the following year. Robert attended local schools, graduating from Traip Academy with the Class of 1950. He then attended McIntosh College, until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in April 1951. He served the country that he loved, proudly and with honor. While in the Navy, he married the love of his life, Jean Barnaby. Upon discharge from the Navy in 1955, he became employed with PSNH at Schiller Station; transferring to Newington Station while it was under construction in 1973. After 36 years of faithful service, he retired in 1992. He also dedicated 11 years to the Kittery Volunteer Fire Department.
Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean Walker; his daughters Pamela and her husband Richard, Katherine and her husband Robert, and Susan; grandchildren, Scott and his wife Renee, Sara and her husband Thomas, Robert and his wife Lisa, Christie and her husband Richard, Ryan, Tyler and his partner Alexandra, Michael and his fiancé Hannah, Daniel, and Ashley and her partner Shawn. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Robert A. Jr; brother Edward; and sisters Delores and Dorothy.
The happiest times in Robert's life were those spent with family and friends. He enjoyed family vacations including camping, time at the lake, and hunting. He loved watching his New England sports teams. He could make everyone laugh with his quick wit, fix just about anything, and was confident that he was never wrong.
Visiting hours will be held at J.S Pelkey & Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd, Kittery, ME, from 4-6pm on Monday, May 17th. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 18 th , at 1pm at Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association of Maine in honor of his dedication to his loving wife.
