Obituary

SOMERSWORTH - Roland Gagnon, 88 of Main Street passed away on October 22, 2013 with his family by his side at the Hyder House Hospice House in Dover, following a period of declining health. Born on September 2, 1925, in Somersworth, Roland was the son of Henri and Clarida Gagnon. He was raised in Somersworth, and attended local schools. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was a former member of The American Legion, Post 69 in Somersworth, N.H. During his career Roland worked at Dover Shoe, Delta Shoe and South Berwick Shoe where he served as the foreman. Roland also erected antennas for 29 years in the local area with his partner Val Rouleau. Roland also built his own home where he resided for 60 plus years. Roland and his wife, Ruth, celebrated 67 years of marriage earlier this year. He enjoyed many summers with his family at the camp which he built on Milton Three ponds. He enjoyed taking trips to Foxwoods Casino and Oxford Casino and was anavid sports fan, never missing a Red Sox or New England Patriots game. The most important thing in Roland's life was his family. He was deeply loved and will be forever remembered as a loving father. Members of his family include his wife Ruth (Currier), three daughters, Madeleine MacDougall (Bruce) of Hebron, Jackie Crombie (George) of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Sharon Flanagan (Dave) of Somersworth, three sons Ronald Gagnon (Patty) of Rochester, Roger "Pit" Gagnon of Somersworth and Jerry Gagnon (Cheryl) of Somersworth, N.H., 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers Paul and Andy Gagnon and one sister Anna Charpentier. He was predeceased by his brothers, Maurice, Leo, Richard, Raymond, Armand, George and Martin Gagnon and his sisters Lillian, Antoinette, Eva, and Rita and one granddaughter Jane Marie Montesano. Private services will be held for his family only as this was Roland's wish. Memorials in his name may be made to Hyder House Hospice House, 285 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.
