Obituary

Somersworth - Ronald J. Marcotte passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 4th at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, NH.

Born March 26th, 1937, in South Berwick, Maine, Ron was the son of Edward Marcotte and Therese Goulet.

Ron is survived by his wife, Carole Lepage, daughter, Laurie and her husband Michael McIntire; their grandson Robert; son, Shawn Marcotte; his siblings; Roger Marcotte, Edward Marcotte, Dennis Marcotte, David Marcotte, Loraine Baue, and Constance Jacques, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Ron is predeceased by sisters Helen Plumlee and Denise Marcotte.

In his youthful years, Ron was known to kick up his heals with his bride Carole and dance the night away.  Ron had a passion for socializing, where he always made it a point to make family and friends feel welcome.

During his life, Ron was very active in the political arena, where he served in the State House of Representatives from 1965 – 1969, the State Senate District 6 from 1969 – 1973, as well as running a Mayoral campaign for Somersworth, NH in 1971. Ron was a Rigger Foreman in Shop 72 and a Shop Stewart at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.  He retired from there in 1993, after a proud 20 year-long career.  Ron was also a lifetime member of the Rochester Knights of Columbus, where he was a Grand Knight.

On several occasions, Ron and his brothers would share an afternoon of sports watching, as they were avid fans of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.  Ron also had a passion for boxing, where in his younger years, he was known for his "left hook", a skill that earned him the title of New England Golden Glove Champion in 1960 and 1961.

Services:  A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church on September 8th at 10 AM, located at 440 Church St., Rollinsford, NH.  Burial will follow immediately after at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Somersworth, NH.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Meals on Wheels, something both Ron and Carole are passionate about.  To leave online condolences, visit www.bernierfuneralhome.net .
