Obituary

Ronald K. Mills, 87, of Kittery, Maine and Shelburne, Vermont, beloved father, grandfather, and child of God died peacefully on June 12, 2020. Raised in Florida and Connecticut, he graduated from the University of Maine before a stint in the US Army.

Family was the center of Ron's life.  He was predeceased by Lenore Mills, his beloved wife of 55 years.  Ron and Lenore married in 1963 and eventually settled in Kittery, where they raised their family, developed many deep friendships, and became beloved members of their community.

Ronald is survived by his children and their spouses: Wallace Mills and his wife Theresa of South Berwick, ME; Deirdre Mills Goldenbogen and her husband Kevin of Charlotte, VT; and Raymond Mills and his wife Rachel Andron of Port Washington, NY, along with many grandchildren (Kimberly and her husband Tyler, Danielle, Owen, Samson, Simon, Ezra, and Zamir).

As a journalism major, his time in the Army was spent as a reporter.  This began a long career as a journalist and editor, first at various newspapers including the Bangor Daily News and the York County Coast Star, and eventually at Putnam Investments, where he headed the Shareholder Communications department.  Ron volunteered in various community groups, including the Kittery recycling committee and the Boy Scouts, and was a very active member of the First Congregational Church of Kittery Point (UCC).  In his understated way, he had a gift for making people believe in themselves and encouraging them to follow their dreams.  He loved telling and hearing good jokes and bad puns, and his gift for storytelling was legendary.

The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at the Arbors at Shelburne, as well as the care team from Bayada Hospice, all of whom made Ron's final years and days ones of joy and comfort.

Due to current restrictions, the celebration of life will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please honor Ronald by being kind to everyone you meet today, make a donation to a charity that strives to make the world a kinder place, or both.

Care of the Mills family has been entrusted to J S Pelkey and Son Funeral Home
