Rudolph R. Mayo, 85 of Somersworth, NH and Riverside Rest Home in Dover, NH died at the Hyder House Hospice on Monday December 14, 2020. He was born in Dover, NH the son of Rudolph and Lilla (Leary)Mayo. He is survived by his loving wife Helen (Drouin) Mayo of Somersworth. His son Scott and wife Linda of Barrington, NH, His son Brian of Strafford, NH. And his special son Gary Mayo of Somersworth. He also is survived three grandchildren Jacob Mayo of South Berwick, Me. Emilee Mayo Marks and her husband Taylor of Haverhill, Ma. And Emily Masse of Somersworth. And a Great Grandaughter Lilly Mayo and her Mom Emily Langsam of South Berwick, Me. And many nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Dover High School class of 1953 and McIntosh College. He retired from the General Electric in Somersworth where he worked as a Tool & Machine Designer. He also worked as a contract Designer for many manufacturing companies in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He also worked as a delivery driver for Westwind Florist in Somersworth after his retirement.
He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Somersworth, having served on the Parish Council, Finance Committee, Cemetery Committee, Usher, and Alter Server at funerals and he also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Rudy joined the Marine Corp on his 18th Birthday in 1953 and was a Korea War veteran. He was a Life member of the Marine Corp League Seacoast Detachment 394 of Portsmouth, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5744 of South Berwick, Maine and the American Legion Post 49 of Rollinsford.
He continued to serve his country in the Marine Corp Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve and the Army Reserve and retired with the rank of First Sgt in 1989 with a total of 33 years service. He was a very proud of his military service to his country. He also was a "Pease Greeter" at Pease International Trade port for many years during the War on Terrorism.
Rudy was very active as an advocate for the mentally hanicapped. He served on the board of directors of the Child Development Center of Rochester (now known as the Monarch School). He also served on the board of Developmental Services of Strafford County(now Community Partners of Dover). He was a coach and volunteer for many of his son Gary's Special Olympic teams over the years.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, his sister Judith Plante of Wakefield, NH and his brother Randolph of Sanford, Me.
