Obituary

Eliot Maine-Ruth I. (Grover) Moynahan, 77, passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 13, 1944 to Raymond D. and Ruth (Stacy) Grover, Ruthie was a lifelong resident of Eliot, graduating from Eliot High School in 1962.

She met the love of her life, Gerald Moynahan, while still in high school working at her after school job. Jerry mentioned that he could see her slip and she threw a towel at him. So began a 60 year love affair.

Ruth was the CEO of the Moynahan family household and was fiercely loyal to her husband and 4 kids, often joking that they were the best dysfunctional family around. Ruthie was a renowned baker known for her whoopie pies and chocolate chip cookies. She would freely share her recipes with anyone who wanted them but somehow no one could quite make them the same way. During the pandemic, she spent hours in the kitchen baking for those who may have been shut in to try to shine a little light on their lives in spite of her illness. Ruthie was also an amazing scrabble player and when people would tire of getting beat by her, she would play games against herself. She loved nothing more than listening to, or reading about, the adventures of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as following along with her many Facebook connections and was the queen of the emoji! She taught her family the true meaning of love, caring and compassion by her words and actions dailyending every "good bye, I love you" with a "love you more!"She also taught us that nothing could say more than a well-placed 'F' bomb.

Ruthie is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years Gerald T. Moynahan, children Dan Moynahan and his wife Barbara of Eliot, Suzanne Levan and husband Kevin of Burlington VT, Michael Moynahan and wife Susan of Eliot and Maureen Moore and husband Dave of Greenland NH. Grandchildren Stacy (Moynahan) Paradiso and Husband Tony, Sean, Spencer and Kiley Moynahan, Jake and Caleb Levan and Alexa and Mitch Moore. Great grandchildren Henry, Eliza and Ashton Paradiso.Sister Raylene (Grover) Goodwin and Brother Ray Kenneth Grover

Ruthie was predeceased by her parents, Raymond D. Grover and Ruth O. (Stacy) Grover

There will be no calling hours as Ruthie requested a small family only gathering. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Eliot fire department, 1323 State Road, Eliot, ME 03903 would be greatly appreciated.

The family would like to thank her wonderful doctors and nurses from York hospital, palliative care and especially the staff of Beacon hospice who truly went above and beyond in their care for mom.
