Obituary

Sandra June Lorusso, age 83, of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer on June 10, 2024. Sandra was born on July 6, 1940, in Norwood, MA to Ahti Lans and Genevieve (Venskus) Lans. She was the oldest of three children growing up in Walpole, MA, and was a 1958 graduate of Walpole High School. Sandra went on to earn her degree from Bridgewater State College and a degree in special education from Lesley College. She married Anthony Lorusso of Norwood, MA, and went on to an exciting and fulfilling life, forging a career as a grade school teacher, raising her sons, and later diligently managing her husband's law practice in Boston, MA, and Portsmouth, NH.

She loved to travel, and when she met her husband, Tony, they traveled all over the world together. Sandra and Anthony lived in Sturbridge, MA, and Bethesda, MD, before settling in Scituate, MA, to raise their two sons, Michael and Peter. After the boys had grown, Sandra and Tony moved to Boston and lived an exciting urban life. They later moved to Portsmouth, where they resided in their beloved Rockingham condominium where they formed many special friendships. Sandra and Tony enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage before Tony's death in 2002. Sandra was blessed to find love and companionship again later in life when she reunited with her high school classmate Bill Newhall. The couple married and enjoyed several happy years together until Bill's death in 2021.

Throughout her life, Sandra kept very busy watching all her beloved Boston sports teams, attending the opera, staying involved with her neighbors, and playing cards with her friends. She cherished all human interactions and was a regular at her many churches. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Sandra leaves her sons Michael Lorusso of Ft Lauderdale, FL, Peter Lorusso (Leslie Spuria) of Ft Lauderdale, FL, brother Donald Lans (Marian) of Falmouth, MA, niece Kristen Lans (Ronald Cunha) of Falmouth, MA, nephew Donald Lans of Orange, MA, sister-in-law Suzanne Lorusso (Michael Forman) of Ft Lauderdale, Fl as well as several cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Lorusso, second husband, William Newhall, and sister, Lorraine Lans Jeffries.

A memorial mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer Street, Portsmouth, NH, on June 24th at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Norwood, MA, at a later date.
