Obituary

Portsmouth – Shane Jeffrey Smith, 32, of Holiday Drive in Portsmouth died suddenly on April 19, 2017 at his home.

Shane was born and raised in Portsmouth; a son of Scott and Shari Smith. He attended Portsmouth schools graduating in 2003 from Portsmouth High School and furthered his education at the University of New Hampshire.

Shane was a fierce New England sports fan, the Red Sox and most especially the Patriots (see: cat named Brady). He participated in many sports throughout his youth, and found the time to play as often as he could in his adult life as well. His family held a special place in his heart and he always seemed to shine brightest when he was around them. His laughter could always be heard by the fire at camp. He was looked up to by all of his cousins whom he was very close with, as well as his cherished niece, Ashlyn, whom he loved "to the moon and back" and was always most proud of.

Shane enjoyed listening to music and sharing the newest songs with his friends, camping with family, playing softball and most recently spending time with his friends that were working toward their own sobriety. He took great pride in being a strong supporter, advocate, mentor and role model for others in recovery. He often spoke to groups and valiantly offered to candidly tell his story to many churches, recovery groups and supported his community in many ways. Shane dedicated his life to touch as many people working towards their own sobriety and will leave behind a network of extraordinary people impacted by him and their continued success will be the greatest possible tribute. That will be Shane's legacy that his family is most proud of and will carry on in his honor.

Shane is survived by his loving family; parents Scott and Shari Smith of Portsmouth, brothers, Steven and his daughter, Ashlyn, his girlfriend Kayla and her daughter, Ella of Kennebunk, ME, and Shawn, of Austin, TX, Jessi - his loving girlfriend, his beloved cat Brady, and his many adoring cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends that he considered family.

Friends are invited to visit with his family on Monday from 5-8 pm in the First Congregational Church UCC at 1361 State Road, Eliot, Maine 03903. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
