Kittery Point, ME - Shirley Washburn, 100, passed away on October 13, 2022. She was born in Bethel, Maine on June 14, 1922 to Alphonso and Marjorie Brown. She was raised in the Woodstock, Maine area along with five siblings. She moved to her Bartlett Road home when it was just a dirt road with grass growing up the middle with no houses within sight and she and her husband raised their family.

Shirley leaves behind two daughters, Roxie Hardy (Lee) of Portsmouth, NH and Cyndra Grover (Red) of Jefferson NH along with two grandsons, Michael Foley and Jeffry Dyer. She also had six great grandchildren, David, Thomas, Nikolaus, Joshua, Casey and Katie Dyer. In addition there were three great-great grandchildren children. She was predeceased by her husband, Fremont (Monty) Washburn, a grandson, Darren Dyer and a great - great grandson, Robert Everett Dyer.

She worked for the United States Post Office, mainly in Kittery Point, for 25 years and retired in 1983. But retirement was apparently too boring, so she began volunteering for many years at York Hospital as well as at The Homestead nursing home in Kittery. Besides her volunteer activities she also worked for the town of Kittery on the board of registration for several years and was nominated and appointed Chairman of that board. In addition to the extra-curricular activities, she also joined her husband in his sport of choice, trapshooting. She practiced until she was an excellent marksman and garnered many trophies and championships in Maine and surrounding states.

She has made many dear friends throughout her life, but her family was her love, which includes her Seventh Day Adventist Church family.
