Obituary

Stanley R. Libby, 91 of Kittery, Maine, went home to be with his Lord and Savior in heaven, who had greatly blessed him throughout his long life.

Stan was born in Lewiston on March 21, 1934.  He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1952. He worked for 5 years in Lewiston at Maine Central Railroad as a Clerk.

Stan eloped with his love, Janet E. Linti, in 1958 to Clinton, TN where they married. Stan and Jan lived in Auburn, ME, where he worked for Sherwin Williams from November 14, 1958.  He was store manager in Rumford, ME, from 1960 until 1970. He moved to Portsmouth, NH, in January 1970, where he worked for Sherwin Williams for 38 years, retiring on March 21, 1996. Stan also worked a second job for many years at Montgomery Ward in Newington, NH, as an appliance salesman.

He and Janet became long-time members of Screven Memorial Baptist Church in Portsmouth, and he served as Church Treasurer for 7 years. Both volunteered at the church's beach ministry, "The Agape Inn" on Hampton Beach, NH. They joined Faith Baptist Church in Kittery, Maine, where he has been a member since 1996.

Stan was also a member of the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, and the Masons.  He is the past Grand Master of Kittery Lodge, Naval #1814.

Stan enjoyed Sunday drives and day trips with his young family. He loved playing games in the car or at home and enjoyed sing-a-longs along the way. He always had a love for music, especially hymns, and would sing often.

Stan and Jan enjoyed celebrating over 50 years of marriage until Jan went to heaven in 2011. Family time was everything to Stan. He was a people person who could talk about anything, and he always enjoyed get-togethers and watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.

He was a huge Red Sox fan from his youth, and he enjoyed watching sports with his son at least once a week. Stan was also a huge foodie who always looked forward to Portsmouth's Restaurant Week, anxious to make reservations with anyone who would go with him. He loved all types of cuisine and had a love for sweets as well.

Stan loved floating in the lake on hot days and would often travel to camp whenever he could. He also loved 4th of July celebrations, watching the fireworks displays from friends' or family's pontoon boats.

Stan is predeceased by his wife, Janet (Linti) Libby.  He is survived by his brother, Kendrick Libby of Minot, ME, his sister, Joyce Ramsey of Sebring, FL, his children, Kathy Murphy and her husband Hal Murphy, Brenda Bracy and her husband Doug Bracy, and Mark Libby and his wife Ann Libby, as well as 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
