Stephanie Marie Castaño of Somersworth passed on April 16, 2025, in Roxbury, Maine, while visiting with friends and family. Stephanie was born on February 22, 1978, to José and Elizabeth Castaño.

Stephanie was a lifelong New Hampshire resident, except for nearly ten years that she lived in Rumford, Maine. After graduating from Coe-Brown Academy, Stephanie attended Plymouth State University as an English major, focusing on creative writing.

Stephanie was so many things to so many people, a doting Aunt to her biological nephews Jacob, Nicholas, Oliver, and countless surrogate kiddos! A loving sister to her two brothers, Chris and Derek. An endlessly caring daughter to her beloved parents. A friend and advocate for countless chosen families. Stephanie built a community wherever life took her. To know her was to love her. She was truly the most amazing person, and anyone who knew her was better for it. She was the kind of human that kind humans aspire to be.

Stephanie enjoyed writing, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying life. She loved Elmo, yes, the little red Sesame Street Muppet. She was the type of person who would give a perfect stranger her last dollar and the shirt off her back. She would be happy to know that her Elmo collection will be donated to a local community center for children, and almost every belonging has been shared with people who could benefit from it. Stephanie loved going out to Johnson with her family, and boy, did she love her Dunkin' coffee. She was predeceased by her special furry friends, Zeke and Rascal, her two pudgy cats. She loved those furballs!

For the friends and family reading this, please know how much Steph loved you all. She was so incredibly grateful for all the love and support each and every one of you provided throughout her life. Thank you all in abundance for being part of her story. Special thanks to Carol Pingree and Karen Hodgkin, who loved her unconditionally, no questions asked. Remember her fondly and know that she will continue looking over us for many years to come.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 23, from 10:00-12:00, with a service from 12:00 to 1:00 at Bernier's Funeral Home in Somersworth, NH. Afterwards, Stephanie will be laid to rest alongside family at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity or simply enjoy a meal with your friends and family and remember her fondly.
