Obituary

Somersworth - Suzanne M. Desper, 57, died at home on Monday, October 8, 2018 after a 17 month fight with lung cancer.

Born in Portsmouth on February 13, 1961, she was the daughter of Walter and Lorraine (Welch) Fernald. Growing up she attended Portsmouth schools before marrying her first husband, Michael W. Jenkins, which gave her the first three loves of her life...her children, Kelly, Chris and Sean.  In 1996, she married Frank, who was by her side until her final breath. Together they shared their beloved dog, Sophie. She fell in love again when she became a Nana.

She was recently retired after 13 years as the Grille Stewart of the Frank E. Booma Post 6 American Legion where she was also a member of the Auxiliary Post.

Small but mighty, Sue will mostly be remembered for her amazing singing voice, sense of humor, story telling, unmatchable ability to cook and absolute selfless nature. She was always spear heading a fundraiser for local families in need, feeding Veterans on all the holidays, adopting a local family every Christmas, raising money for Saint Judes and helping out anyone that needed it. Her devotion to her family, friends and the community can never be matched. There will truly never be another like her.

Survivors include her husband, Francis Desper of Somersworth, New Hampshire; her three children, Kelly Jenkins and wife, KC of Lebanon, Maine, Christopher Jenkins of Rochester, New Hampshire, and Sean Jenkins and wife, Brittney of Berwick, Maine; Her four grandsons, Hudson, Hunter, Hayden and Kaleb; Her step-children, Nicholas and Bailey Desper both of Modesto, California and her step-grandsons; Her brothers, Ronald Fernald of Pennsylvania and Wayne Fernald of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Walter Fernald, Sr. and Lorraine LaValley; her brother, Richard Fernald; and her nephew, Joseph Fernald.
