Obituary

Kittery- Suzanne Margaret Ilsley, 66, of Rogers Road in Kittery died suddenly on September 28, 2021 at her home.

Born in Utica NY on December 27, 1954, daughter of the late Albert and Margaret Woodward.

She attended Kittery Schools, graduating from R.W. Traip Academy with the class of 1973.

Sue met and married her loving husband (Joseph) Jeff Ilsley and together they made Kittery their home and raised their boys.

Suzie is survived by her loving husband Jeff of Kittery, son Derrick and his wife Jamie Ilsley and their children Tucker and Buster, son Shawn and his wife Jillian Ilsley and their children Lauren, Nicholas and Jack, son Andrew and his wife Kimberly Ilsley and their children Camden and Colton, sister Mary Elizabeth and her husband Gary Catapano, and her brother Thomas and his wife Liz Woodward, as well as beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Albert Woodward Jr and David Woodward.

Her life was filled with FAITH, FAMILY and SERVICE.

She grew up attending St. Raphael's Catholic Church, and later teaching Sunday school, and raising her family as part of the parish. Her faith was so important to her, inspiring her love of life and the teachings of Mother Teresa.

Her first love was unquestionably her family, her husband Jeff, their boys, and her adored grandchildren.  She shared an incredibly close bond with her sister Mary Elizabeth.  She shared many great times over the years with her close sisters-in-law Lynette Plaisted and Ardyce Wyman.  Sue made many amazing memories "Up to Camp" on Mousam Lake and at "Camp Camp" in Bodfish Valley, and on her many adventures to Florida, and riding the waves on her boogie board at Fort Foster, sailing on the Schooner Isaac Evans, and hanging out "down the garage" at home.  Susie was the kind of wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend that everyone should have in their life - those close to her are truly better for having had her in their lives and will continue to be touched by her memory and knowing she is watching over them from Heaven.

Suzie was an employee at York Hospital for thirty plus years; she enjoyed her various roles as a Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant, and eventually the Facility Coordinator of York Hospital in Wells since its opening over twenty years ago.  Sue greeted everyone with enthusiasm, cheerfulness and a genuine smile and she was so kind, compassionate, and giving to everyone she crossed paths with.   The former YH Humor Committee was a pride and joy of Sue's because of her sense of humor and creativity she was able to utilize many of her costumes, making staff smile and laugh while serving food and making lasting memories for many!  York Hospital noted " in thirty plus years her heart, team spirit and leadership have been pivotal at our Wells campus ".

Sue will be remembered for her service to the communities she loved, having served with the Wells Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity, Wells Town Christmas parades and serving cookies and hot chocolate, and many more.   A true Irishman, Sue enjoyed cooking corned beef and cabbage for the YH Wells staff on many St. Patrick's Days, or running out to the store to get ice cream or a birthday cake.  She exemplified The Rotary International motto of " Service Above Self", an active member of  the Wells Rotary Club and Rotary District 7780, she supported so many community activities in many clubs throughout the District. She served many roles in the club from Club service chair and club President in 2012-2013 and again in 2019-2020. She also served at the district level on many committees and as Assistant District Governor from 2015 to 2018. Internationally she took part in a Rotary Aid Trip to Guatemala in 2013.
