Suzanne "Suzi"
Raeside
May 24, 1945 — Jan 1, 2026
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Suzanne Raeside, lovingly known as Suzi, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Suzi departed this world surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.
Suzi was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and later earned her journalism degree from the University of Kentucky, where she met her husband. The two quickly settled in Eliot, Maine, where they built their life and family together. Suzi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. Her unwavering faith and commitment to her church and community were cornerstones of her life. She found purpose in serving others and was always the first to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word. A proud member of the York Hospital Board of Directors, Suzi dedicated herself to improving healthcare in her community—work she felt deeply passionate about. Her service extended to St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where she was a beloved and active member of the congregation. Suzi served on numerous committees, but one ministry was especially close to her heart: The Common Table, a program that embodied her belief in fellowship, compassion, and caring for others.
Suzi is survived by her two loving sons, Mark Raeside and Duncan "Travis" Raeside, Duncan's wife Jessica Raeside, Suzi's brother, James Somes, and his wife Debbie Somes, and her sister Barbara Doane and her husband Jack Doane. Suzi is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren: Tyler Raeside, Colby Raeside, Kendra Boulay, Ashlee Mayo, Madison Mayo, Sydney Mayo, Brady Mayo, and Vincent Antinozzi. They will continue to honor her memory by living with the same compassion and faith that she exemplified every day.
Suzanne's professional life was as impactful as her personal one. She began her career as a 7th-grade English teacher, inspiring young minds with her love of literature and language. For more than 20 years, she served as the Director of Adult Education for the SAD35 school system, touching countless lives through education and mentorship. Suzi had a remarkable ability to make even strangers feel at home, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
