Kittery – Sylvia E. Grogan, 87, a lifelong resident of Kittery and South Berwick, passed away on January 23, 2025, at Sentry Hill in York, ME, where she had made her home for months.

A native of Kittery, Sylvia, affectionately known as "Syl," a daughter of the late Eugene Gerry and Hazel Pettigrew, was born on the family farm on Wilson Road in Kittery along with her four other siblings.

She was raised in Kittery and attended local schools such as R.W. Traip Academy. Following school, she worked at several local grocery stores, including Dan's Star Market in Kittery and the "Pic-N-Pay" in Portsmouth. She spent the majority of her career at the former Tri-County Hospital in Kittery in the dietary department, where she would meet the love of her life, Bill Grogan. They married and together made their home on Traip Ave in Kittery, where she made a welcoming home for her many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Syl enjoyed growing flowers in her garden and sharing them with her family. She and Bill found great enjoyment in making and painting handmade toys for all the kids in their family. Some of her most joyous moments were spent on the floor playing with the children who called her Aunt Sil.

Following retirement, Syl and Bill enjoyed traveling, especially with her sister Gin and brother-in-law Bill, never missing an evening cocktail.

Syl will be lovingly remembered by all those she touched, including her niece Valerie and her husband Rick Troxel, whom she considered her own kids and made a home with them in South Berwick.

Syl is also survived by her sister Linda Lytle of York and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

A funeral will be celebrated on February 2, 2025, at 1:00 pm in the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904. A burial will follow in the spring.
